My Thoughts on the Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Direct

© Nintendo

Nintendo has dropped yet another a Nintendo Direct, this time providing more info on the upcoming Nintendo Switch/2 game Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. As a huge Mii fan and someone with "Mii" in my username, I am looking forward into getting the game.

The Direct begins with creating a Mii resident from scratch. There are more style options for hair, eyes, mouth, and even ears. You can also select your Mii's gender as nonbinary! More voice customization options (6 tones instead of 4 from Tomodachi Life) for your Miis. You can also face-paint your Miis, which was not present in the Switch version of Miitopia.

You can now grab your Miis and bring them closer to another Mii, a nice callback to Mii Channel on the Nintendo Wii. You can now dictate which topics your Miis can discuss with each other. Miis can also bump into each other (and fall in love that way apparently).

Food mart and clothing store have names now--Fresh Kingdom and Where & Wear. Mii News is revamped to MNN (Mii News Network). Home supply store is now T&C Reno. Night market is now Marketplace. Photo Studio is now Foto-Tomo, a nice naming callback to Miifotos from the discontinued mobile game Miitomo.

You can also decorate your island with more greenery if a Mii suggests it. A new store, Quik Build, allows you to purchase island furniture and greenery. Landscaping, a feature similar in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, enables the player to customize their own island to their own imagination, opening up more customization opportunities.

Palette House is a new shop that allows you to create imaginary pets and customize pretty much anything, including exterior items. Miis can now offer to move into another Mii's residence, and up to 8 Miis can live in a single residence. I have been dying for this feature for YEARS.

Overall, I enjoyed the Direct. A lot of new features look exciting, and pre-existing features from Tomodachi Life got a major glow-up. I was hoping that you could customize what food and clothing items your Mii loves, given that this upcoming game is continuing the RNG factor. I can't wait to give my Mii yellow hair without the need of a hairspray. I'll be living the dream on April 16th!

Yoshi in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie!

© Illumination / Nintendo

Today around 9 AM EST, Nintendo dropped a Nintendo Direct, showcasing a new trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. In the new trailer, Mario and Luigi arrive via bikes to Tostarena; the Bros. investigate the "problem" inside the Inverted Pyramid where they stumble upon a "monster", who turns out to be none other than a scared Yoshi.

Also in the trailer we get a glimpse of Peach fighting Birdo; you also see bosses from Super Mario Bros. 2-Mouser and Clawgrip if you look very carefully. In addition we see enemies such as Octoombas and Octoguys. Towards the end of the trailer we see the T-Rex from Super Mario Odyssey roaring at Yoshi and co; Yoshi and Toad are in fear while Baby Mario and Baby Luigi laugh-with Toad holding the babies. Yoshi has a mix of his movie voice as well as his in-game voice clips; I am curious on who is voicing movie Yoshi.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie releases on April 1st... April Fool's Day. I really hope Illumination and/or Nintendo aren't making an April Fool's joke about the release date.

My thoughts? I really enjoyed the trailer! I was honestly hoping to see a fight sequence where Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi fight against the Tostarena guardian Knucklotec, as the latter has been hinted through the carvings inside and outside the Inverted Pyramid. On the brighter side, Mario's interaction with Yoshi in the Inverted Pyramid is slowly becoming the subject of shitposts; coincidentally, Mario is voiced by Chris Pratt, Yoshi is a dinosaur, and Chris Pratt is a leading actor in the Jurassic World quadrilogy. Once I go see the movie I will post a spoiler-free review.

We Need to Talk.

You might've heard the news. Especially if you were in your Five Nights at Freddy's phase between 2015-2019. If the name "Rye-Rye99" rang a doorbell for you.

Rye-Rye99 was a Canadian YouTuber who posted various gaming, GMod (Garry's Mod) and SFM (Source Filmmaker) content, usually with friends, from 2014-2025. Throughout the past few days, ex-friends and ex-fans of Rye have voiced their negative experiences with him. These recent events have led Rye-Rye99 to delete both of his YouTube channels and erase his online presence. (But not completely as on Steam he just changed his name to "online"; as for VRChat and GameJolt he changed his username to "SomeDood10")

Several people have posted videos revealing what Rye was actually doing behind the scenes. Such accounts mention Rye's actions which include and are not limited to: pedophilia, grooming, fetish roleplay, suicide-baiting, guilt-tripping, backstabbing, harassment, bullying, manipulation, gaslighting, and abuse. More specifically, he was in relationships with three minors (one was 17 while Rye was 22-23). In addition, he would fake panic attacks on Discord calls with friends just to seek attention.

As for me, I used to be a fan of Rye-Rye99's videos back in 2015-2018, more so his SFM animations. I actually crossed paths with Rye himself on VRChat around June 2024; I joined off a friend who happened to be friends with Rye. We were playing a few rounds of Audience Anarchy; someone (probably a friend of Rye) was recording footage but Rye flatly announced that whoever was recording has to make the final video Unlisted; I was unsure why, but this was the only time I caught a glimpse of Rye's selfish side(?).

I was also aware of Rye backstabbing another FNAF YouTuber, EthGoesBOOM; I am one of the very few people who vividly remembers Rye impersonating Eth on YouTube and Google+ back in early-2017, likely out of jealousy. Many people probably forgot about this stunt because Google+ shut down some time in 2019.

I happen to be friends/acquainted with several people who were hurt by Rye's actions. My heart goes out to everyone except for Rye (and Aaron aka ajmarkle because Aaron is just as awful as Rye).

Please watch these videos as they fully detail Rye-Rye99's true colors:

Nintendo Switch 2!

Believe it or not, yesterday I finally got my hands on a brand new Nintendo Switch 2. Yes mine came with Mario Kart World. I finally upgraded after owning my OG Switch for almost 8 years.

First thing I did was link my Nintendo account to my Switch 2. After initial setup, I downloaded the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island Transfer Tool in order to safely transfer my 5+ year old island Vanifolia from my Switch 1 to the new console. Afterwards I fired up Animal Crossing: New Horizons and my island appeared exactly how I last played it on my old Switch 1 console.

Afterwards I utilized the system transfer tool to safely transfer my Nintendo Switch save data to the new console. The transfer took only about 10-20 minutes because most of my Switch games are physical.

Next in line was redownloading all my digital purchases: Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2, as well as any DLC(s) I own. I saved Mario Kart World for last because I was currently focused on playing Super Mario Galaxy. Let me tell you something, downloads are faster here than on Switch 1.

I like the new Joy-Con 2's. Although I am currently using the Switch Pro Controller which has connectivity to Switch 2, much to my surprise.

I actually played Mario Kart World, and I really like it so far! It'll take time for me to get used to the new mechanics such as rail-riding. I have mostly been playing Free-Roam mode. I hope we can race or free-roam with each other one day.

On the subject of Switch 2 games... which games will I get next, you ask? I have yet to get my hands on Donkey Kong Bananza. Games I already own such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Super Mario Bros. Wonder are getting exclusive DLC/updates next year. Some Switch 1 games I have yet to play include Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, Princess Peach: Showtime!, and Mario & Luigi: Brothership. As for third-party titles that are on Switch/2, I'd rather play them on PC, XBOX Series S or PlayStation 5, depending on my tastes.

As of writing this I am currently playing Super Mario Galaxy. I am really looking forward to more Nintendo Switch 2 news and updates in the near future.
